View of Kili from the rain forest

Day 8 Monday 6th February: Mweka Camp 3,090 to Mweka Gate 1,641m. Distance 8.5km

Everyone emerged from their tents at 6:30 having had the best night`s sleep all week.

The guides arranged a celebratory dance for us and the mood was amazingly positive.

The job was done and we had a short scenic walk through the rain forest to reflect on what we had achieved.

I could taste the celebratory beer we had all promised ourselves. At Mweka Gate we signed the summit register, and got some cold beers to celebrate. It was without doubt the best cold beer I had had in a long long time.

We boarded the van and headed into Moshi for a lunch – the cheeseburger and beer I ordered were demolished pretty quickly and from there we returned to the hotel in Arusha for a hot shower and plenty more beers to reflect on the enormity of our achievement and the money we had all raised for charity.
