The Top Of Africa - Day 2

Day 2 Tuesday 31st January - Forest Camp 2,821m to Shira 1 3,508m. Distance 7.7km

We were now in to the daily ritual of being woken at 6:30am, breakfast in the mess tent at 7:00 and on the trail by 7:30am. We were also drinking the chlorinated water which I was taking the edge off with Berocca, Nuun electrolyte tablets etc. This was poper camping!


It was a very wet day and the rain was relentless, which started to dampen everyone`s spirits as the hike was long, undulating and no let up in the rain. This wasn`t what we signed up for – where was the sun??


Eventually we reached Shira 1 camp, a total trek of 7.7km. The sun came out and were able to dry out gear and tents, which were drenched. Amazing how a bit of sunshine can lighten the mood...
