A really solid week of training slightly disrupted by my second of three dental visits to sort out a root canal.
The finale of the week was the Great North Run in Newcastle on Sunday. I put off doing this race for years as people told me it was too crowded, you will never run a PB there etc etc. And, I am really sorry I listened to them.
This was my third year on the trot and last year I DID run my half marathon PB there. I love the whole buzz around Newcastle, the Red Arrows send goose bumps down my neck, and even though the weather is normally rubbish.
This year was no exception. Beautiful on Saturday then windy and blowing a gale on Sunday. Never the less, I love it. I ran pretty well and was hoping to beat my PB but on the last 3 miles with the wind against me I just came up short in 01:30:09. Still, with the wind and the rain I will take that.
At the end I had to wait in freezing conditions for my wing man (Matty) to turn up. Apparently the Metro was chocker. Still, he made it, we got in to the pub for a warm up and swift one and then bagged a taxi back to Gosforth. We had the most amazing Sunday pork roast in Barca, Gosforth with proper crackling. Will deffo be back next year.....
